India launched 'Operation Ajay' on 11 October to evacuate its citizens from strife-torn Israel. So far, five flights carrying more than 1,000 Indian and 18 Nepalese nationals have arrived in the country.
Nepal’s foreign minister N.P. Saud and Ambassador of Nepal to India Shankar P Sharma expressed gratitude to Indian external affairs minister S. Jaishankar for rescuing Nepalese citizens from Israel.
The fifth flight under
‘Operation Ajay’ carrying 286 Indian citizens and 18 Nepali citizens arrived New Delhi on late Tuesday night.
The passengers were welcomed by Federal Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying L. Murugan at the airport.
While talking to the media after the flight landed, Murugan said that the
priority of the government is to bring back the Indians wherever they are stranded.
“We have successfully conducted Operation Ganga and Operation Kaveri now under Operation Ajay we are bringing people back from Israel. This is the fifth flight, and we have already brought 1180 people back home. We are the first country to start the evacuation, and we are also bringing people belonging to our neighbour (Nepal) countries,” he added.
After the
Nepali citizens landed in New Delhi, Saud took to social media to thank Jaishankar.
Sharing a tweet by Jaishankar in which he had mentioned about the fifth flight arriving in India, Saud wrote: "Your Excellency Dr S Jaishankar, we appreciate this help at a difficult time. Nepal and Nepalese people are grateful."
Apart from Saud, the Ambassador of Nepal to India Shankar P. Sharma while talking to the media said: “We would like to thank the Indian Government for bringing Nepali citizens back from Tel Aviv to Delhi. They have arrived here safely.
