The Delhi police on Sunday beefed up security across various borders in the national capital ahead of a farmer march scheduled for 13 February.
Heavy police forces have been deployed at Singhu, Tikri, as well as the Noida borders, and drones are also being used for surveillance.
Apart from this, water cannons, large containers, as well as cemented and iron barricades have been set up to avoid any untoward incidents.
The Delhi police have also imposed Section 144 in Northeast Delhi, under which large gatherings have been banned.
The security arrangements have been stepped up, as at least 200 farmer unions have called for a "Delhi Chalo" ("Let’s Go to Delhi") march on 13 February. The farmer unions called for the march to press their demand to enact a law on a minimum support price (MSP) on their agriculture produce.
According to media reports, federal ministers Piyush Goyal, Arjun Munda, and Nityanand Rai will meet farmer leaders Jagjeet Singh Dallewal and Sarwan Singh Pandher tomorrow in Chandigarh.
Meanwhile, security arrangements have been stepped up at the Punjab-Haryana borders in the Ambala, Jind, and Fatehabad districts also, as the borders have been sealed and Haryana police have also issued a traffic advisory and asked commuters to limit travel on the main roads of the state until 13 February.
The Haryana state government has also suspended mobile Internet services and bulk SMS services in seven districts, including Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Jind, Hisar, Fatehabad, and Sirsa, until 13 February.
As per media reports, around 15,000-20,000 farmers are expected to reach Delhi on 2,000-2,500 tractors to participate in the march, and farmers from Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, and Karnataka are expected to join.
