Indian Navy Rescues Merchant Vessel Hit by Drone in Gulf of Aden

An Indian warship has provided critical assistance to a merchant vessel after it caught fire following a suspected drone or missile attack in the Gulf of Aden.

The Palau-flagged MV Islander came under attack on Thursday, one of the ship's crew was injured, Indian military officials said.

A naval explosive ordnance disposal team boarded the ship and cleared it of any residual threat, after which it was cleared for onward transit, they said. A medical team from the Indian Navy also boarded the ship to help the injured crew member.
In a swift response to a distress call from the vessel, the Indian warship reached the vicinity of the cargo ship within a few hours to provide critical assistance, an official said.
"Relentless efforts by Indian Naval warships reaffirms Indian Navy's steadfast commitment towards safety & security of merchant shipping & seafarers,'' Indian Navy spokesman Commander Vivek Madhwal said.
Recently, the Indian Navy has provided assistance to a number of merchant ships in the Indian Ocean following attacks on them.
