The Indian Navy Chief Admiral R. Hari Kumar has announced that the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile will become the primary weapon of the Indian Navy, replacing older missile systems procured from other countries.
During the closing ceremony of the Defense Expo in Pune, Admiral Kumar told the Indian news agency that the Indian Air Force and its fighter aircraft could also potentially integrate BrahMos as their primary air-to-surface weapon.
He stressed the importance of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in India's journey toward achieving self-reliance in defense manufacturing.
The Navy chief's remarks come after the Cabinet Committee on Security approved a contract worth INR 190 billion ($2.29 billion) for more than 200 BrahMos missiles. The deal is anticipated to be officially signed on March 5.
