The third and fourth power units of India's Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), which is being built in collaboration with Russian state corporation Rosatom, are expected to come into operation 18-24 months, said Rosatom General Director Alexey Likhachev on Wednesday.
"At the Kudankulam NPP, two units of the first stage are already functional, four more are being built, of which two are at a high degree of readiness," Likhachev said in Russian State Duma.
“We expect that physical launches will take place within the next one and a half to two years,” he said.
The NPP is being developed by Russia's Rosatom and the Nuclear Power Corporation of India.
The first phase of the project, consisting of units 1 and 2, was connected to India's national power grid in 2013 and 2016, respectively. Currently, construction and installation work is underway and equipment is being supplied for units 3 and 4.
The plant is located in the state of Tamil Nadu in southern India.
