The supply of smartphones from India to Russia has surged by a factor of 16 last year, according to a Sputnik analysis of data from the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry.The information suggests that the smartphone trade reportedly hit $97.3 million, yet in 2022, it came to $6.1 million. In November, the maximum supplies reached $27.29 million; Eldar Murtazin, a leading analyst at Mobile Research Group, concurs with Trufanov that India is not primarily exporting its brands to Russia, but instead top names like Xiaomi or Apple, which are foreign brands produced in India.India exported two billion domestically-manufactured smartphones and feature phones between 2014-2022, bolstering its status to the world's second-largest mobile phone producer, according to stats. India has made significant advancements in smartphone manufacturing, boasting over 260 mobile phone plants currently in operation. This achievement has solidified India's standing as a huge player in the global mobile phone manufacturing industry.
The supply of smartphones from India to Russia has surged by a factor of 16 last year, according to a Sputnik analysis of data from the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
The information suggests that the smartphone trade reportedly hit $97.3 million, yet in 2022, it came to $6.1 million. In November, the
maximum supplies reached $27.29 million;
"Xiaomi, Samsung, Google, and Apple manufacture smartphones there both for the domestic market and for the entire world. In our opinion, this is just one of the supply channels through which these aforementioned companies bring their products to our country. Smartphones from Indian manufacturers (e.g. Micromax) have features comparable to those from 2014, and are unable to compete with modern models, so it is unlikely that they are specifically importing these," EvApps project manager Rodion Trufanov said to media.
Eldar Murtazin, a leading analyst at Mobile Research Group, concurs with Trufanov that India is not primarily exporting its brands to Russia, but instead top names like Xiaomi or Apple, which are foreign brands produced in India.
"Parallel import is what it is. And, in general, they're bringing in what's in demand here. New Indian brands, exist in India, but they usually lack localisation and the Chinese don't like the prices. .... Xiaomi is bringing in a lot from the Indian market because they have a factory there, thus the prices in India are lower than what you can get in China. So that's why they are in demand. And as a rule, these are not even parallel imports, but frequently "grey imports". Although there are parallel imports too, nonetheless," he summed up.
India exported two billion domestically-manufactured smartphones and feature phones between 2014-2022, bolstering its status to the world's second-largest mobile phone producer, according to stats.
China accounts for around 50 percent of total mobile phone production worldwide, while India's share is about 20 percent, followed by
Vietnam (10 percent).
As the South Asian giant ascended to the position of the world's second-largest mobile phone maker,
mobile phones have become the country's fifth-largest export.
