India is aiming to become the world's third-largest supplier of artillery platforms amid the South Asian nation hitting the record mark of defense exports worth $3.2 billion in the last financial year.
Of late, India's artillery shells have been making waves in the international market with Armenia and Saudi Arabia becoming the latest buyers of such ammunition from New Delhi.
Against this backdrop, Bharat Forge, the Indian private-sector defense giant, is aiming to make India the world's third top-ranked exporter of artillery.
"It is my vision and dream to be among the top three artillery exporters in the world. Now we are number one in the business. So we are targeting that in the artillery sector, we will be the largest manufacturer in the world with the best of technologies. We plan to achieve that target by 2030," Baba Kalyani, the Managing Director of Bharat Forge, told reporters during a media interaction in New Delhi on Wednesday.
It must be remembered that Bharat Forge has a close association with India's defense sector, having supplied armored vehicles and the Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS), widely regarded as the world's best artillery gun, to the Indian Army in recent years.
Besides, the Pune-headquartered firm has developed plans to develop short-medium altitude drones for the Indian Armed Forces amid the focus of the tri-services to induct UAVs for all purposes in the next few years.
