Pakistan Court Directs Gov't to Restore Access to Elon Musk's X Platform

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) told the court that it had suspended the social media platform in March on the orders of the interior ministry and intelligence agencies. However, the ministry did not acknowledge its involvement until 17 April.

The Sindh High Court issued a directive on Wednesday ordering the Pakistani government to restore access to the social media platform X within a week, Geo News reported.
The government had blocked access to the platform since February, citing "national security reasons", although no official announcement was made.

“It is very pertinent to mention here that the failure of Twitter/X to adhere to the lawful directives of the government of Pakistan and address concerns regarding the misuse of its platform necessitated the imposition of a ban," media reports.

Critics slammed the government for its delay in acknowledging the ban. Farieha Aziz, co-founder of an advocacy group, said of X: 'Two months since X was blocked in Pakistan. From 'no one blocked X' to the official acknowledgement of a ban after legal challenges, the reasons remain flimsy and outside the bounds of the law. It's not ignorance, the government & PTA are deliberately misleading".
