Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing an election rally in Damoh town of Madhya Pradesh on Friday, said that the 2024 Lok Sabha elections are about making India a great global power in the next five years.
“This is an election to make India a big power in the world... When there is an atmosphere of war in the world, then a government working on a war footing is very important in India. In such a time, there should be a strong government and only the BJP government with a full majority can do this,” Modi said while emphasising the need for a stable and strong government in view of the prevailing situation in the world.
The Prime Minister also lashed out at the opposition Congress party for weakening the country's defence sector when it was in power, while the BJP-led government is making the defence forces self-sufficient.
“The opposition party did not wanted French-made Rafale fighter jets to come to India while the BJP government is making our defence forces self-reliant; India is exporting weapons to many countries. India is exporting BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles to the Philippines,” he said.
He also reiterated his government's commitment to the welfare of the poor, pointing out that the federal government had extended the free ration scheme for nearly 800 million beneficiaries for another five years.
