He warned that he won’t be “intimidated” by efforts to shield corrupt politicians, as he vowed to continue to target corruption in public life.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has justified his government’s stance of weeding out corruption from public life, accusing the opposition I.N.D.I.A bloc of defending dirty politicians.
“I am fighting against corruption. Because of that, some people are facing problems...Modi's mantra is 'Bhrashtachar hatao (eradicate corruption)' and they say 'Bhrashtachari bachao (defend the corrupt)'. This election is between NDA (BJP-led National Democratic Alliance), which is fighting against corruption and the other group, which is fighting to save the corrupt,” Modi stated at an election meeting in Meerut in the northern Uttar Pradesh state.
Modi claimed to be waging a “big battle” to save the country from the menace of corruption.

“That is why big corrupt people are behind bars today. There are not getting bail even from the Supreme Court,” the PM stated, in an apparent reference to the case of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who was arrested by the federal financial crimes’ probing agency Enforcement Directorate (ED) this month for receiving kickbacks for distributing liquor licenses during the now scrapped Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22.

The timing of Kejriwal’s arrest just weeks before the parliamentary election has been criticized by the opposition.
The US State Department has also said that it was “closely monitoring” the case, drawing a strong diplomatic response from New Delhi which accused Washington of interfering in internal matters.

“No matter how many attacks you make against Modi… Modi is not going to stop… No matter how big a corrupt person is, action will definitely be taken. The one who has looted the country will have to give it back. This is Modi's guarantee,” asserted the prime minister, who is seeking a third term in the upcoming election.
