Yemen’s Houthis have attacked the British-owned oil tanker 'Andromeda Star' with missiles in the Red Sea as it was en route to India, reports have indicated.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) has stated that Houthis launched three anti-ship ballistic missiles into the Red Sea from Yemen, resulting in minor damage to the Andromeda Star with no deaths being reported.
The Yemeni armed forces also reportedly downed a $31 million MQ-9 American drone in the airspace over Yemen’s Saada province.
Houthis continue to attack commercial ships in the area in a show of support for Palestinians fighting Israel in the Gaza war.
Since November, the Houthis have launched repeated drone and missile strikes in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab Strait, and Gulf of Aden, forcing shippers to re-route cargo to longer and more expensive journeys.
The attack on the Andromeda Star comes after a brief hiatus in the Houthis’ campaign that targets ships with ties to Israel, the United States, and Britain.
