"The FSB of the Russian Federation in the Pskov region has suppressed the activities of a cell of the international terrorist organisation banned in Russia, whose members — citizens of one of the Central Asian countries — planned to commit a terrorist attack against a transport infrastructure facility in the region," the statement read.
The attackers, acting on the instructions of a terrorist organisation emissary abroad, "attempted to blow up the the railway station building in Pskov," the FSB said, adding that islamists planned to flee to one of the Middle East countries after the attack.
The terrorists conducted a reconnaissance of the area, purchased components for making an improvised explosive device, and began assembling it.
"During the arrest, the terrorists resisted the Russian FSB officers and as a result were neutralised by return fire," the statement said.
