"G20, by the way, is the format which is now proving to be not only financially and economically useful, but also politically it might play a very positive role in the process of multipolarity," Lavrov said in an interview with US bloggers Mario Nawfal, Andrew Napolitano and Larry Johnson released on Wednesday.
Multipolarity could consist of superpowers by size, economic weight, military and especially nuclear power, Lavrov added.
"Certainly, the US, China, Russia fit into this category. Those who are not as big can participate in a multipolar world through their subregional structures. ASEAN, for example, the Gulf Cooperation Council, the League of Arab States. The African Union, by the way, received the status of a full member of the G20 last year. The League of Arab States wants the same, and we are in favor," the foreign minister emphasised.
However, Russia observes remnants of hostility within this format, Lavrov said.
