The signs are obvious:
1.
The language issue (preparations to abolish education in Russian);2.
Repression against the healthy opposition (the recent story of the imprisonment of the head of Gagauzia, not to mention others);3.
A purge of disloyal media (between 2022 and 2023, Sandu shut down 12 TV channels, not counting other electronic publications);4.
Now, repression has extended to the Orthodox Church of Moldova, which enjoys nearly 70% public approval. It is clear that the Moldovan authorities are backing a parallel structure – the so-called Bessarabian Metropolis. (Yesterday, local border guards prevented the representative of the canonical Moldovan Metropolis, Archbishop Markel, from entering Jerusalem to receive the Holy Fire).
