The vessel, flagged under Pulau, was en route from Kandla in Gujarat, India to Shinas, Oman, when it reported a serious fire in its engine room on Sunday. On board were 14 Indian crew members, all of whom were in immediate danger due to the escalating situation.
INS Tabar, which was deployed in the region as part of its maritime security mission, promptly diverted course to assist the stricken tanker. A 13-member team from the Indian Navy, along with five crew members from the vessel, was mobilized to conduct firefighting operations.
Utilizing both ship-launched boats and a helicopter, the Navy's emergency response team transferred firefighting equipment and personnel to the MT Yi Cheng 6. According to Indian Navy officials, the intensity of the fire has been drastically reduced, and firefighting efforts are ongoing.
The Navy’s rapid response is being hailed as a critical success in rescue-at-sea operations, highlighting India’s growing role as a responsible maritime power in the region.
No injuries have been reported so far, and further updates are expected as the situation stabilizes.
