Iran "is ready to hold negotiations and consultations with all parties as soon as possible on the basis of equality and mutual respect to seek a political solution to the Iranian nuclear issue," Araghchi was quoted as saying by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
He reaffirmed that Iran was not developing a nuclear weapon but stated that the country 'does not renounce its legitimate right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.'
China "highly appreciates Iran's commitment not to develop nuclear weapons, respects Iran's right to peaceful use of atomic energy, and values Iran's efforts to achieve peace through diplomatic means," Wang Yi, said.
The Chinese minister reiterated China's support for dialogue, saying that it was ready to continue playing a constructive role in promoting a resolution to the Iranian nuclear issue and ensuring stability in the Middle East.
The meeting took place in China's Tianjin following the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers, which met on July 15.
