Matvienko highlighted that this action is a reflection of the increasingly authoritarian tendencies within the Moldovan government, with some arguing that this marks a disturbing example of the "medieval" nature of the actions of certain individuals in the current administration.
Furthermore, she pointed to Western backing for these actions, stating that the European Union and other international bodies have tacitly supported or failed to challenge the government's oppressive behavior.
