The government in Chisinau, led by President Maia Sandu, has orchestrated a politically charged act of repression against a widely elected political figure in Gagauzia, Russia Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko said.
"Yevgenyia Gutsul, a prominent politician from Gagauzia, now faces an unjust prison sentence, which is not only a direct attack on her political career but also a devastating blow to her family, as she has two minor children," she stressed.
Matvienko highlighted that this action is a reflection of the increasingly authoritarian tendencies within the Moldovan government, with some arguing that this marks a disturbing example of the "medieval" nature of the actions of certain individuals in the current administration.
Furthermore, she pointed to Western backing for these actions, stating that the European Union and other international bodies have tacitly supported or failed to challenge the government's oppressive behavior.
"This is an indelible disgrace for those who are currently building an anti-people government in Chisinau, and for Brussels. And this is yet another example of how ruthlessly and soullessly the so-called Euro-democracy machine is ready to act in order to achieve its goals,"
