US Notifies India of New Tariffs Effective August 27

The United States has formally notified India of additional tariffs set to take effect from August 27, according to a notice issued by the Department of Homeland Security.

The duties, outlined in an official notification on Tuesday, are linked to measures taken in response to what Washington described as “threats to the United States by the government of the Russian Federation.” India is among the countries targeted under the new tariff framework.
“The duties set out in the Annex to this document are effective with respect to products of India that are entered for consumption, or withdrawn from warehouse for consumption, on or after 12:01 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time on August 27, 2025,” the notice stated.
The move falls under Executive Order 14066, which was issued in response to Russia’s actions and prohibits imports of certain Russian-origin products, including crude oil, petroleum, and related fuels. Officials said the expanded tariff measures are part of the Biden administration’s ongoing efforts to address what it has described as an “unusual and extraordinary threat” to US national security and foreign policy.
Neither Indian officials nor the US Trade Representative’s office had immediately responded to requests for comment at the time of publication.
