On December 17, Kirillov and his aide were killed in a bomb blast in Moscow, the Russian Investigative Committee said. A criminal case of a terrorist attack, murder and illegal trafficking of explosives is being investigated. The next day, Akhmadjon Kurbonov, the perpetrator of the terrorist attack, was detained. He said that he had been recruited by the Ukrainian special services, and for committing a crime he was promised $100,000 and departure to Europe.
According to the case file, "the involvement of Gedzik's accomplice in the crime was established, who was charged with participating in a terrorist community, committing a terrorist act, smuggling explosive devices, illegal acquisition, storage, transportation, carrying explosive devices and his wanted list was announced."
The Russian Federal Financial Monitoring Service (Rosfinmonitoring) database indicates that Andrei Gedzik has Ukrainian citizenship and is put on the terrorist list.
Investigative and procedural actions in the case of Kirillov's assassination were carried out in several regions of the Russia, according to the documents, and the investigation must transfer the case of Kirillov's murder to the Russian Prosecutor's Office by November 17 for approval of the charges.
