Putin called the talk of supplying Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine "show-off bordering blackmail" and emphasized Russia's response to West during a press conference following his state visit to Tajikistan.
"Our response to the talk of delivering Tomahawks to Kiev is the strengthening of our air defense," he said. “In the near future, we will be able to announce the emergence of new types of weapons.”
He said that the tests of new types of weapons are going well and that Russia will be able to announce their appearance in the near future.
Many countries are considering or even preparing to conduct nuclear tests, and Russia is aware of this, Putin said.
Russia is ready to negotiate with Washington on arms control, the president further said. However, the US withdrawal from the New START - a nuclear arms reduction treaty - would not be critical for Moscow, he stressed.
"If the American side decides they do not need this, it is not critical for us at all. Everything is going according to plan in this regard," Putin said.
Meanwhile, he highlighted that Russia and the US understand the path to a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict. While not all details of the Anchorage talks were disclosed, both countries share common goals and continue working within the framework set at the Alaska summit in August, he noted.
Commenting on awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to someone other than US President Donald Trump, Putin said it is not up to him to decide.
He, however said that the Nobel Committee has repeatedly awarded Peace Prize to those who have done nothing for peace, adding that Trump sincerely seeks to resolve the crisis in Ukraine.
Earlier in the day, the Nobel Committee in Oslo announced that the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado.
"He [Trump] is genuinely working to resolve crises that have lasted for years, even decades," Putin underscired. "In my opinion, they [the Nobel Committee] have caused enormous damage to the credibility of this award with these decision."
Commenting on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's remark on Thursday that Kiev would nominate Trump for the prize if the US sends Tomahawks, the president said that linking the prize with arms supplies to Ukraine is ridiculous.
