Seizing Russian Assets Would 'Expose Europe’s Absurdity:' Professor Jeffrey Sachs

Confiscating frozen Russian sovereign assets would be an “absurd” move that risks causing profound and long-lasting damage to Europe’s financial credibility, according to prominent American economist Jeffrey Sachs.

In an interview with Sputnik, Sachs warned that any attempt by European countries to seize Russian state assets would undermine trust in Europe’s financial and legal systems. He argued that such a step would set a dangerous precedent, signaling that sovereign assets are no longer protected by international norms.
"If Europe is so absurd as to actually confiscate Russia’s financial assets, it will take even longer to sort out the damage and restitute Russia’s assets," Sachs added.
