The ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia will take effect at 12:00 local time (05:00 GMT) on December 27, Thai Defense Minister Natthaphon Narkphanit said on Saturday.
"The ceasefire will take effect from 12:00 today along the entire line of contact between the armed forces," he told journalists following bilateral talks with Cambodia.
Thailand and Cambodia have also agreed to refrain from reinforcing troops or deploying additional equipment and weapons along the border, Narkphanit said, adding that all forces at the line of contact must completely cease any hostile actions against each other.
"Military observers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), as well as both sides will strictly monitor the ceasefire for 72 hours, and if the border areas remain secure, evacuated residents will be able to return. Thailand will then hand over captured Cambodian soldiers to Cambodia," the defense minister added.
