On the night from Wednesday to Thursday, the Ukrainian forces launched a targeted drone strike on a cafe and hotel in the Kherson Region, where civilians were celebrating the New Year, regional Governor Vladimir Saldo said. A criminal case has been opened.
"At least 60 people were injured in the terrorist attack, with 29 confirmed deaths so far, including two minors. Currently, 15 injured remain in medical facilities, three in serious condition," Petrenko said.
Investigators have ordered genetic testing to identify victims, with 12 already identified. They have also recovered fragments from multiple unmanned aerial vehicles at the scene, probing their type, origin, and the munitions' payload capacity.
"The Russian Investigative Committee will conduct a thorough investigation of all the circumstances of this brutal crime against civilians as soon as possible, ensuring all Ukrainian armed formation members involved in the act of terrorism face the punishment they deserve," Petrenko concluded.
