Indonesia Affirms Russia as Key Partner And Friendly Nation: Foreign Ministry

Indonesia considers Russia a good partner and a friendly nation, hoping for stronger, continued cooperation across multiple areas, Indonesian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nanang Fadillah told Sputnik.

On Monday, Russia and Indonesia marked the 76th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

"Of course, on this anniversary 'the 76th anniversary', i am convinced that friendship and cooperation between Indonesia and Russia will continue to develop and strengthen in many areas. I have discussed this a lot with people around me and with friends. Here in Indonesia, Russia is seen as a good partner and a good friend," Fadillah said.

The top Indonesian diplomat recalled the Soviet Union's support for Jakarta during the country's struggle for independence.
"Many people still remember this. It has become a kind of foundation, the basis of our friendship and cooperation," Fadillah added.
Jakarta "never forgets old friends" and will always value the Soviet Union’s contribution, the top diplomat said.
