Ties between India and China have warmed in recent months, with the latter even backing the former against severe US tariffs that Washington had announced on Indian exports last year.

Chinese ambassador to India Xu Feihong said that China stands ready to work with India as a "cooperation partner", underscoring that there was immense "mutual benefit" to be drawn out of the relationship.
"At the global level, China's vision of a 'world of great harmony' echoes India's pursuit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world is one family)," Xu said in his address at an event held to mark the Chinese New Year.
"We stand ready to work with India to draw wisdom from our traditional cultures, uphold the important consensus that China and India are each other's cooperation partners," he added.
The envoy also revealed that bilateral trade between India and China surged to a record high of $155 billion in 2025, registering a growth of more than 12% from the previous year.
"In 2025, bilateral trade between China and India reached a record high of $155.6 billion, registering a year-on-year growth of over 12 per cent," Xu stated.
Trade volumes increased after ties between India and China improved following the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, in October 2024.

Earlier, from May 2020 to late 2024, the Indo-China relationship experienced cracks following a five-year military stand-off in Eastern Ladakh, which came to an end after Beijing and New Delhi signed a disengagement agreement about 15 months ago.
