US President Donald Trump previously claimed that there was no one left in Iran with whom to negotiate, but claimed it was acceptable for Washington. He also stated that he did not want a ceasefire with Iran.
According to the outlet, Trump's advisers want to lay the groundwork for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict with Iran. Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and the US leader's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, are also said to be participating in the discussions.
The portal notes that there have been no direct contacts between the US and Iran in recent days, but messages have been transmitted through Egypt, Qatar, and the UK. Egypt and Qatar have reportedly informed the US and Israel that Iran was willing to negotiate, but under very strict conditions. According to the portal, the Iranian side is demanding guarantees that hostilities will not resume in the future, as well as compensation.
Meanwhile, US officials told the portal that they expected hostilities in the Middle East to continue for another two to three weeks.
On February 28, the US and Israel began striking targets in Iran, including Tehran, causing damage and civilian casualties. Iran is carrying out retaliatory strikes on Israeli territory, as well as on US military targets in the Middle East.
