US Return to Bagram Air Base Due to Iran Crisis Unacceptable: Russian Foreign Ministry

Russia considers the deployment of US military facilities in Afghanistan, as well as the return of the US to Bagram Air Base, unacceptable, Zamir Kabulov, Russian special presidential envoy on Afghanistan and advisor to the foreign minister, told Sputnik.

"We consider the deployment of US and NATO military facilities and infrastructure in Afghanistan or neighboring states under any pretext categorically unacceptable. We hope that the authorities of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan will continue to adhere to a similar approach," Kabulov said when asked about how Russia assesses the risk of the US again demanding access to Bagram Air Base from the Afghan authorities amid the buildup of US forces in the Middle East due to the Iran crisis.
On February 28, the United States and Israel launched strikes on targets in Iran, including in Tehran, causing damage and civilian casualties. Iran responded by striking Israeli territory and US military facilities in the Middle East.
