A criminal case was lodged against the accused for rashly or negligently posing a threat to human life or personal safety, criminal intimidation, and rioting.
An 18-year-old Dalit boy was allegedly abused and brutally beaten last week for touching food during a wedding function in India's Uttar Pradesh state.
The incident in Wazirganj town came to light only on Monday after the victim's elder sister, Renu, filed a police case regarding the alleged abuse of her brother, Lalla, a resident of Naubasta village.
The feast was arranged at the house of Sandeep Pandey, who, along with his brothers, allegedly attacked the teen when the latter approached the food table to pick up a plate.
Lalla’s elder brother Satyapal stepped in to rescue the boy, but was also beaten by the group and his motorbike was damaged.

Renu reached out to the gram pradhan (village head) to complain about Sandeep and his brothers, but when the accused heard that she was raising an alarm about the incident, they reportedly barged into the victim's house and thrashed Lalla again, also damaging family property.

The assistant superintendent of police (ASP) of the Gonda district, Shiv Raj, told Indian media on Monday that a police probe into the allegations is ongoing.
