Christianity is the third largest religion in India after Hinduism and Islam, with approximately 28 million Christians living in the country.
President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and other leaders extend their wishes on Christmas.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to recall the noble thoughts of Jesus Christ.
"Merry Christmas! May this special day further our society's spirit of harmony and joy. We recall the noble thoughts of Lord Christ and the emphasis on serving society," the PM tweeted.

President Droupadi Murmu greeted citizens and said: "Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas! On this day, let us remember the message of kindness and brotherhood given by Jesus Christ. May we spread joy and positivity and have the spirit of compassion towards fellow beings and the environment."
On Christmas Eve, President Droupadi Murmu also visited Sacred Heart Cathedral Church in New Delhi and participated in the celebrations.

Mamata Banerjee, West Bengal state chief, and her party members attended church events. Trinamool Congress party tweeted her video of visiting a church with caption: "Let us all come together in seeking blessings of the Lord for the Nation's peace & harmony. (sic)."

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also wished a Merry Christmas, stating that it gives hope that the values of brotherhood and tolerance will be strengthened.
"The festival of Christmas gives hope to strengthen the values of brotherhood, tolerance, and caring. May this joyous occasion bring happiness and prosperity to all. Merry Christmas, everyone!" he said.
Many other federal ministers and parliamentarians also took to social media and wished citizens a Merry Christmas.
