Shraddha Walkar, 27, was allegedly murdered by her live-in partner, Aftab Ameen Poonawala, 28, who cut her into 35 pieces and dumped them across Delhi.
Sony Entertainment has denied any connection between a recent 'Crime Patrol' episode and the gruesome murder case of Shraddha Walkar.
In a statement, the channel decided to take episode 212 off air, however, given the sensitivity of the matter and calls to boycott the channel.
Calling the episode a “work of fiction," the channel said that the episode was based on an unspecified 2011 incident.
Apologizing to its viewers, the channel further said: “We take every care to ensure our content meets broadcasting standards laid down by the regulatory bodies. However, in this case, respecting the sentiments expressed by our viewers, we have discontinued the airing of the episode.”
The controversy sparked last week when the show's viewers alleged that the episode glorified the horrific murder, which is still being investigated.
The episode depicted the murdered woman as Christian and the murderer, who allegedly cut her body into pieces, as Hindu.
People took to Twitter to accuse the channel and the show makers of defaming Hindus by showing them as cold-blooded murderers.
