Listed as a critically endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, the white Griffon vulture lives along the Himalayas & Tibetan Plateau.
An injured rare white Himalayan Griffon vulture has been rescued in India's Kanpur city. The vulture is protected under India's Wildlife Protection Act of 1972.
It is reported that the creature had not been able to fly for almost a week. After frequent attempts, the locals successfully captured the injured bird at the Eidgah cemetery of Kanpur's Colonelganj when it came down.
A viral video showed locals holding the distressed bird and spreading its wings to showcase it in front of the camera.
The forest department was alerted and has kept it under 15-day quarantine in the veterinary hospital of the Allen Forest Zoo.
