The project is expected to boost India's renewable energy capacity significantly, reducing the country's reliance on crude oil imports and saving more than $12 billion.
India and the United Arab Emirates are set to conclude "agreements" on renewable energy interconnection between the two states, India's federal Minister for Power and New Renewable Energy R.K. Singh has revealed.
Singh is currently in Abu Dhabi for an assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).

Though the minister did not disclose further details of the deal, he hinted that it is at the final stage of approval.

India Says Its Energy Security Policy ‘Replicable’ Across Global South
According to Singh, the agreement would be under the One Sun, One World, One Grid (OSOWOG) initiative, a transnational electricity grid supplying power initiatives by a group of countries to create renewable energy networks.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi first proposed OSOWOG in 2018 during the International Solar Alliance (ISA) assembly to provide energy to about 140 countries through a standard grid that will transfer solar power.

Singh also said Abu Dhabi hinted it would like to invest more in India's renewable energy projects, including solar and wind, in the future.

Meanwhile, on 13 January, both countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding on green hydrogen development, produced using renewable energy.
