India's Shubman Gill made history on Wednesday, becoming the youngest batter ever to score a double-hundred in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) at the age of 23. Gill's feat came in the first ODI against New Zealand in Hyderabad this afternoon after he struck his maiden double ton in the 50-over format.Opening the innings for India, Gill looked in great touch from the word go. While wickets kept falling around him from the other end, the Fazilka-born cricket star took the New Zealand bowlers apart in what was a splendid display of destructive batting. The right-hander's century came in just 87 balls, his second in consecutive matches. Subsequently, Gill went past 150 before launching an all-out assault on the opposition bowlers at the tail-end of the Indian innings. He even smashed three sixes in a row to bring up his first double-century before getting out for a score of 208 off 149 deliveries. His knock also featured 19 boundaries and 9 huge sixes.En route, Gill went past Ishan Kishan to emerge as the youngest batter in the world to hit a double hundred.Kishan had made the record his own last month when he struck a double ton aged 24 years and 145 days — but Gill has now taken over from him, with his double hundred coming at the age of 23 years and 132 days.Earlier, Gill became the fastest Indian to complete 1,000 runs in ODIs.Who Held the Record Before Gill? Before Gill, Virat Kohli and opening batter Shikhar Dhawan held the Indian record jointly for being the quickest to thousand runs in ODIs. Both Kohli and Dhawan had amassed 1,000 runs in 24 innings while Gill accomplished it in 19 knocks.Overall, Gill is the second joint quickest to complete 1,000 runs alongside Pakistan's Imam-ul-Haq. Both players reached the milestone in 19 matches each. The fastest to reach the landmark though remains Pakistan's Fakhar Zaman, who attained the feat in only 18 matches.
