A World Health Organisation (WHO) special envoy on Friday praised India's G20 presidency at a Health Working Group meeting, saying that its chairmanship in the group this year has given a fillip to the voice of the Global South. The first Health Working Group meeting was held in Kerala's capital Thiruvananthapuram, to discuss prevention and potential response to global health emergencies, with antibiotic resistance on the agenda. Alakija highlighted the digital change occurring in India's health industry, saying that other countries are visiting the country not just to admire its beauty, but to learn too.India assumed presidency of the G20 on 1 December 2022 and will hold it until November 2023. The theme of India's presidency is 'India G20: Inclusive, Sustainable, and Resilient Growth'.

The first Health Working Group meeting under India's presidency of the G20 was held from 18 to 20 January, with a focus on boosting cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector.
A World Health Organisation (WHO) special envoy on Friday praised India's G20 presidency at a Health Working Group meeting, saying that its chairmanship in the group this year has given a fillip to the voice of the Global South.
"It's an exciting moment in history because India will decide the global health architecture for the next many decades. Because it is going to be decided in the next few months," Ayoade Alakija, Special Envoy, ACT-Accelerator at the WHO said.
The first Health Working Group meeting was held in Kerala's capital Thiruvananthapuram, to discuss prevention and potential response to global health emergencies, with antibiotic resistance on the agenda.
