The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Friday imposed a fine of INR 3 million ($37,000) on Air India after it failed to take action against a passenger who allegedly relieved himself on a woman on board. The accused - Shankar Mishra - walked free following the incident because the cabin crew did not take any action, although the victim complained about the incident. The episode came to light only when the woman appealed to Tata Group Chairperson Natarajan Chandrasekaran. As a result, Mishra was arrested on January 7 in Bengaluru city after the Delhi police formed four teams and deployed them across three cities.Meanwhile, a fine of INR 300,000 ($3,700) has also been imposed on the airline's director of in-flight services.

On a flight from New York to Delhi last November, a drunk man allegedly sneaked into the business class section and urinated on a random woman.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Friday imposed a fine of INR 3 million ($37,000) on Air India after it failed to take action against a passenger who allegedly relieved himself on a woman on board.
As per the aviation regulatory body, the airline was fined for violating the rules. The DGCA also suspended the license of the pilot-in-command for three months for failing to discharge his duties.
The accused - Shankar Mishra - walked free following the incident because the cabin crew did not take any action, although the victim complained about the incident.
The episode came to light only when the woman appealed to Tata Group Chairperson Natarajan Chandrasekaran. As a result, Mishra was arrested on January 7 in Bengaluru city after the Delhi police formed four teams and deployed them across three cities.
Meanwhile, a fine of INR 300,000 ($3,700) has also been imposed on the airline's director of in-flight services.
