Layoffs at major tech giants so far in January 2023 already amount to 35 percent of the total seen last year.
Delhi state chief and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Monday rasied alarm over massive layoffs at foreign tech firms, including Microsoft and Amazon.
Kejriwal appealed to the federal government via Twitter, asking it to assess the situation in the country and initiate an appropriate response.

"The youths are being retrenched in large numbers from the IT Sector. The Federal government must review the Indian situation and take right steps," the Delhi state chief said in a tweet in Hindi.

According to media reports, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadela announced earlier this month that at least 10,000 works would be laid off by the company. He justified the “hard choice” by citing the need to remain a “consequential company” amid global economic uncertainties.
As per data on job cuts tracker website Layoffs.fyi, companies, such as Google, Amazon, and Microsoft, have already witnessed layoffs of 55,970 employees across 173 firms around the world during the first three weeks of January.
