The Indian Embassy in Canada on Tuesday raised an alarm with the Justin Trudeau government over hate crime incidents targeting the Indian community in the country.The embassy's concerns were issued after a prominent Hindu temple in Brampton was defaced with anti-India graffiti, sparking outrage among the Indian community. The Canadian authorities are currently investigating the incident. Meanwhile, Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown and prominent Hindus based in Canada have strongly condemned the recent vandalism. This is the third incident since July in which a Hindu temple has been vandalized in a similar manner in Canada. In September, India's Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement pointing out a "sharp increase" in hate crimes against Indians and other "anti-India activities" in Canada, urging the Canadian government to investigate the incidents properly and take immediate action.

As per Canada's national statistical data, the country reported a 72% spike in hate crimes between 2019 and 2021 on the grounds of religion, sexual orientation, or race.
The Indian Embassy in Canada on Tuesday raised an alarm with the Justin Trudeau government over hate crime incidents targeting the Indian community in the country.
The embassy's concerns were issued after a prominent Hindu temple in Brampton was
defaced with anti-India graffiti, sparking outrage among the Indian community.
"We strongly condemn the defacing of Gauri Shankar Mandir (dedicated to Lord Shiva) in Brampton, a symbol of Indian heritage, with anti-India graffiti. The hateful act of vandalism has deeply hurt the sentiments of the Indian community in Canada."
The Canadian authorities are currently investigating the incident.
