Trinamool Congress leader Madan Mitra has once again landed in hot water over a remark about married women.Mitra's claim came as he was briefing media about a reported irregularity in a West Bengal meal scheme. According to investigators, funds allocated to hire five midday cooking assistants were being used to hire as many as seven workers at lower wages.Mitra's statement was supposed to be an indirect reference to the Hindu epic 'Mahabharata', in which 'Draupadi' is stated to have five Pandava brothers as her husbands.The comment, however, didn't go down well with most netizens and even his own party colleagues, who slammed the politician for offending women.

Trinamool Congress leader Madan Mitra has once again landed in hot water over a remark about married women.
Mitra's claim came as he was briefing media about a reported irregularity in a West Bengal meal scheme. According to investigators, funds allocated to hire five midday cooking assistants were being used to hire as many as seven workers at lower wages.
In his comments, Mitra claimed that five men can "share" one wife in Indian culture.
Mitra's statement was supposed to be an indirect reference to the Hindu epic 'Mahabharata', in which 'Draupadi' is stated to have five Pandava brothers as her husbands.
The comment, however, didn't go down well with most netizens and even his own party colleagues, who slammed the politician for offending women.
Condemning the remarks, Trinamool Congress' regional general secretary and party spokesman in West Bengal, Kunal Ghosh, said that any irrational reference to the great epic of India is never acceptable and people should be careful with what they say.
