Among other shifts, the resignation of Maharashtra governor Koshiyari has drawn the most attention. The outgoing official has been involved in multiple run-ins with the previous state government, led by Uddhav Thackeray, and sparked rows with his controversial statements.
13 Indian states and union territories on Sunday got new governors and lieutenant governors as President Droupadi Murmu made crucial constitutional appointments.
The appointment of former Jharkhand governor Ramesh Bais as the new governor of Maharashtra was the most politically significant among these. He replaced Bhagat Singh Koshiyari, who had told Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month that he wished to step down from the post and wanted to spend the rest of his life reading, writing and engaging in other leisurely activities.
Apart from Maharashtra, the lieutenant governor of the Union Territory of Ladakh was also replaced after Radha Krishna Mathur decided to step down. He has been replaced by former governor of Arunachal Pradesh Brigadier (Dr) B.D Mishra (retd).
Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Kaiwalya Trivikram Parnaik has been appointed Governor of Arunachal Pradesh.
