According to preliminary reports, searches are being carried out in connection with last year's explosions in the southern Indian states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
India's National Investigative Agency (NIA) is conducting searches at about 60 locations in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala against suspected Daesh* sympathizers, Indian media reported on Wednesday morning.
The searches were sparked by the car explosion on 23 October in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore city. in which one person, Jameesha Mubeen, died. After an investigation, the NIA concluded that Mubeen was linked to the global terror outfit.
He had already been questioned by the central anti-terror agency back in 2019.
So far, the NIA has arrested at least 11 people in connection with the car blast, with searches conducted based on information from the accused who have been questioned in custody.
In a similar case, on 19 November, an autorickshaw exploded in front of a Mangaluru temple in Karnataka state. According to investigators, the suspect was carrying the bomb in a pressure cooker but it exploded before he reached the location at which he had planned to detonate it.
Karnataka state police had said that the blast was an act of terror intended to cause serious damage, and handed the case over to the NIA in December.
