Income Tax Search at BBC Offices Enters Third Day

Since Tuesday morning, India’s Income Tax Department has been conducting "surveys" at the BBC’s Delhi and Mumbai offices on the suspicion of tax irregularities.
The Indian Income Tax Department's surveys at the BBC's offices have now entered upon their third day to investigate issues related to taxation and transfer pricing of the British national broadcaster's subsidiary companies.
According to local media reports, 10 senior staff of the BBC have not been home since Tuesday.
Income tax officials have told the media that the survey will continue for some time, but haven't specified how long that would be.
It is believed that the officials are allegedly gathering financial data from the staff and making copies of the news organization's documents.
According to a spokesman from the federally ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the survey was carried out after officials questioned how funds were transferred among different arms of a multinational corporation.
The BBC said it will cooperate with the authorities and most of its employees are now working from home.
Commenting on the developments, the BJP said that the authorities are merely following the law and nobody is above the law.
