The 95th Academy Awards (Oscars) ceremony was held on Sunday night at Los Angeles' Dolly Theatre.
India made history by winning big at the Oscars with super hit movie RRR's 'Naatu Naatu' for Best Original Song and 'The Elephant Whisperers' in the Best Documentary Short Film category.
The song 'Naatu Naatu' from the Pan-India movie RRR has added another feather to its hat after winning the Oscar for Best Original Song and the previous Golden Globe Award and Critics Choice Awards.
The music, featuring N.T. Rama Rao Jr. (also known as NTR), Ram Charan, is making people across the world dance to its foot-tapping tune and rhythm.
'Naatu Naatu' music composer, M.M. Keeravaani, celebrated the win by turning his speech into a song to the tune of ‘Top of The World’ by The Carpenters.
'The Elephant Whisperers', which bagged the Best Documentary Short Film at the Oscars, is one of the most-talked-about documentaries; it revolves around an unbreakable bond between two abandoned elephants and their caretakers.
Director Kartiki Gonsalves, along with co-producer Guneet Monga, took center stage as they received the honor and thanked the Academy, and others for recognizing their film and highlighting indigenous people and animals.
"I stand here today to speak for the sacred bond between us and our natural world, for the respect of indigenous communities and empathy towards other living beings we share our space with, and finally for co-existence," Gonsalves said while accepting the honor.
Reacting after her big win, Monga wrote on social media, "Tonight is historic as this is the first-ever Oscar for an Indian production. India’s Glory with 2 women.... To all the women watching….The future is audacious and the future is here. Let’s go! Jai hind.”
Calling the wins at the Oscars "exceptional'', Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the team of RRR and The Elephant Whisperers via Twitter, saying: "India is elated and proud."
