For many officegoers, nothing can bring greater joy than getting an impromptu day off from work to rest - particularly when the weekend is just around the corner. One such offbeat idea has taken the internet by storm.
To celebrate World Sleep Day, a start-up based in Bengaluru city, in India, surprised its staff by offering a day off to enjoy a nap on Friday and get ready for a long weekend.
In an email which has now gone viral, a home decoration company, Wakefit, offered its employees a gift of sleep and wrote in an email:
“In celebration of World Sleep Day, all Wakefit employees have been granted a day of rest on 17 March 2023 - and with a long weekend to follow, it's the perfect chance to catch up on some much-needed rest and relaxation.”

"As sleep enthusiasts, we consider Sleep Day a festival, especially when it falls on a Friday!" the email continues.

Why is Extra Day for Sleep the Need of the Hour?

In the email, HR stated figures and said that there has been a 21 percent increase in people feeling sleepy during work hours since 2022 and an 11 percent rise in people waking up tired.
"Considering the prevalence of sleep deprivation, what better way to celebrate Sleep Day than through the Gift of Sleep? Hoping to see you well rested on Monday, Cheers!" the email concluded.
Far from zoning out, however, staff at the company have gone gaga, calling it one of the best perks and giving a shout-out to the organization on social media for such an inspired idea.
Netizens - those, at least, who weren't eaten up with envy that they didn't work for such enlightened employers - quickly took to the idea and flooded the comment section with hilarious reactions.
One wrote, "Great! I love this idea... Any other firm might not even take these metrics into consideration," whereas another commented: "We take sleep very seriously."
"Sign me up. I'd like some uninterrupted full weekend sleep," replied a third.
"Any tips from your sleep internship days on how best to use this extra day for sleep," another user commented.
