The US and UK governments have assured New Delhi that they remain “committed to the safety” of Indian diplomats in their respective countries in the face of pro-Khalistan protests.
New Delhi has said that it wants the pro-Khalistan protesters involved in vandalizing Indian diplomatic missions in Western countries to be brought to justice.
“We are not interested in just assurances, we want action,” foreign ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi told a media briefing on Friday.
He underlined that New Delhi has “strongly taken up” the attacks on Indian missions in London and San Francisco with the host governments. He said that the Indian authorities were also in “close touch” with the Canadian government over the security of Indian diplomatic personnel in the country.
The Indian missions in San Francisco and London have been targeted by pro-Khalistan protestors this past weekend, triggering a severe diplomatic response from New Delhi.

Urge Western Politicians Not to be Taken by ‘Motivated’ Narratives

The Indian foreign ministry urged parliamentarians and the governments in the western countries to not be “misled by inaccurate and motivated narratives.”
“The authorities in Punjab are undertaking an operation to nab a fugitive,” highlighted Bagchi.
The comment was made in response to remarks by Canadian foreign minister Melanie Joly and several Canadian parliamentarians, who have expressed concerns over the communication curbs in Punjab as the authorities try to hunt down radical Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh.
Joly told the Canadian parliament on Thursday that Ottawa was closely monitoring the evolving situation in Punjab and urged a “return to normalcy.”
