Punjab Police have launched a massive crackdown on radical Khalistan supporter Amritpal Singh, now a fugitive, and his group, Waris Punjab De beginning 18 March.
Punjab State Chief Bhagwant Mann's daughter Seerat Kaur on Friday confirmed the reports of receiving death threats in the US.
“For the past several days, my brother and I have been receiving threats online, through the phone, and even during meetings held in the gurdwara (Sikh temple) here regarding the situation in Punjab," the 22-year-old posted on social media.
She further sought to clarify that they are "NOT at all involved with the decision-making of any politician in India, particularly the CM (state chief) of Punjab" and that's why she fails to understand the reason for being "targeted”.
“We have been very concerned about our safety (for) the past week and therefore would appreciate that if you hear or see anything about us, you can understand this and explain the same to someone if needed,” Kaur further wrote.
Seerat and her brother Dilshan are settled in Seattle with her mother, Inderpreet Kaur Grewal. Punjab State Chief Mann and Grewal separated in 2015.
Meanwhile, Chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women Swati Maliwal, in a tweet, urged the Indian diplomatic mission in the United States to ensure Seerat Kaur's safety.
"Read reports of Punjab CM Shri Bhagwant Mann's daughter receiving death threats in the USA. It is an act of extreme cowardice. I appeal to the Indian Embassy [in the] US to ensure her safety," the DCW chief tweeted.
Since Punjab Police are conducting a manhunt for Khalistan supporter Amritpal Singh, protests have erupted in several nations, including the United Kingdom, Canada, and the USA.
