Talks on Ukraine Can Only Be Held Taking Into Account Russia's Interests, Lavrov Tells Cavusoglu
The talks between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Turkish counterpart, Mevlut Cavusoglu, were held in the presidential residence in Ankara, a Sputnik correspondent reported on Friday.
The Russian foreign minister arrived in Turkiye for a two-day visit on Thursday.
Lavrov and his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu discussed Russia-Turkey bilateral relations, the situation in Ukraine, Syria and Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as the Black Sea Grain Initiative.
Negotiations on the settlement of the situation in Ukraine can only take place with taking into account Russia's legitimate interests and concerns, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday.
"Both the president and other Russian officials have repeatedly said that we do not refuse to negotiate, but these negotiations can only be on the basis that we have outlined, on the basis of taking into account Russia's interests, legitimate interests, Russia's legitimate concerns," Lavrov said at a press conference.
The minister recalled that Russia's concerns are ignored by Western countries.
It is necessary to lift all obstacles to the supply of Russian grain and fertilizers to world markets, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said.
Earlier in March, Russia extended the deal for 60 days out of the possible 120.
Moscow extended the deal for only half of the possible term is connected to the obstacles that the Russian side has faced when it comes to its products entering global markets. Western countries refuse to provide guarantees for the international shipping, logistics, and insurance of Russian products, which causes all the problems.
On Escalation Between Israel and Palestine
The settlement process between Palestine and Israel has been pushed far back, Moscow stands for direct dialogue between the parties, Lavrov said.
"As for the settlement of relations between Palestine and Israel, unfortunately, the process has been pushed far back as a result of many events, clashes, unilateral measures taken by both Palestinians and Israelis, and which have now resulted in serious clashes, fraught with further aggravation of the situation," Lavrov said.
Moscow believes that there is a need to return to the fundamental decisions of the UN, on which there should be direct dialogue between Palestine and Israel in the format of a two-state solution, Lavrov added.
