Rajiv Gandhi took charge of the Congress party in 1984 after the assassination of his mother and then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He became the country's youngest premier and served until 2 December 1989.
Congress politician Rahul Gandhi on Sunday penned an emotional tribute to his father, the late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on the 32nd anniversary of his death.
Remembering his father, Rahul shared a video of various moments of Rajiv Gandhi and tweeted in Hindi: “Papa, you are with me, as an inspiration, in memories, always!”
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi along with his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra laid flowers and wreaths at the Vir Bhumi memorial dedicated to Rajiv Gandhi, in the nation's capital.
Congress parliamentary party chairperson Sonia Gandhi and party president Mallikarjun Kharge also paid homage to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on the anniversary of his death.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also honoured Rajiv Gandhi by tweeting: “I pay tributes to former PM Shri Rajiv Gandhi Ji on his death anniversary.”
Apart from this, several other prominent politicians also paid their respects to the former premier, while Congress remembered him as a politician “who devoted his life to defending the true character of India — united and tolerant — and ultimately gave his life for this dream”.
Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated by a Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) suicide bomber during a poll rally in Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu on 21 May 1991.
