Satyendar Jain has been serving a prison sentence after he was arrested by Enforcement Directorate on 30 May last year in connection with a money-laundering case.
Jailed former Delhi Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) politician Satyendar Jain was admitted to hospital on Monday after his health deteriorated.
He was sent to Safdarjung Hospital in the national capital. However, there have as yet been no details about his health.
Notably, Jain’s lawyer asked the Supreme Court on 18 May to exempt the former Delhi minister from appearing in the regular court because of serious health problems and instead receive an expedited hearing in front of one of the judges still sitting while the court is on vacation - a so-called vacation bench.

He told the supreme court that the AAP politician has lost 35kg since he has been in custody.

The Supreme Court was hearing Jain's bail plea.
In response to Jain’s lawyer's request, the supreme court granted permission for the former Delhi Health Minister to appeal before the vacation bench, providing him relief.
Earlier, Jain had written a letter to the Tihar Jail administration requesting them to move two or three inmates into his cell as he was feeling lonely and depressed.
Two inmates were shifted to his prison by the superintendent of Jail No 7. But as soon as the prison authorities got to know about it they shifted both the inmates back to their respective cells.
Later, the superintendent of Jail No 7 was served a subpoena for his action and on 17 May he was transferred to Tihar headquarters.
Jain was arrested by India’s economic intelligence and law enforcement agency on 30 May last year in connection with a money-laundering case. The case was filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in 2017 against Jain and family members.
