The Delhi High Court on Monday issued a summons to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) on a defamation case, which says that its documentary cast a slur on the reputation of India, its judiciary, and the prime minister.The case was filed by a non-governmental organization (NGO) over the BBC documentary India: The Modi Question. On 3 May, a Delhi court summoned the BBC, as well as Wikimedia and Internet Archive, following a criminal complaint filed by a BJP member, which sought to restrain them from publishing the documentary or any other material defamatory of the BJP's ideological mentor the RSS and the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP).The documentary cast aspersions on Modi's role as state chief of Gujarat in 2022, when communal riots erupted in the state. At least 254 Hindus and 790 Muslims were killed as a result of the clashes between the religious communities, as per official government data. In January, India's Ministry of Information and Broadcasting blocked multiple YouTube videos and Twitter posts sharing links to the controversial documentary.

In January, the BBC released a controversial documentary about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's tenure as state chief of Gujarat.
The Delhi High Court on Monday issued a summons to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) on a defamation case, which says that its documentary cast a slur on the reputation of India, its judiciary, and the prime minister.
The case was filed by a non-governmental organization (NGO) over the BBC documentary India: The Modi Question.
On 3 May, a Delhi court summoned the BBC, as well as Wikimedia and Internet Archive, following a criminal complaint filed by a BJP member, which sought to restrain them from publishing the documentary or any other material defamatory of the BJP's ideological mentor the RSS and the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP).
In March, the Gujarat state assembly passed a resolution against the BBC for "distorting facts" in the scandalous documentary.
